Summary Via Goodreads:
“Linc knows Wyn is the girl for him.
Wyn knows Linc is the boy for her.
But she’s promised to another.
Lincoln “Linc” Tatman had been at his new school for months and he thought he’d met all the girls it had to offer. Until one day, he spied Wyn sitting against a tree and realized this new place had been hiding the girl of his dreams. He goes out of his way to get to know her, even though he’s warned that it’s a hopeless case. But he’s determined to win her, even if she can only be his for a short time.
Arwyn “Wyn” Scott is the black sheep of her big gypsy family. When most of the girls her age are dropping out to start their own families, she begs her parents to stay. She doesn’t fit in with the gypsy teens and the regular teens are too afraid of her five older brothers to get close. Then Linc comes into her life, showing her a new life she never thought she could have. She can’t stop herself from falling head first for the boy.
Can Wyn leave behind her family and their traditions to follow her heart, or will she become a young gypsy wife?”
My Review: (This got a 5 out of 5 from me)
Kay first things first: Michelle Turner, total sweetheart ;), asked lit old me if I would review this for her, in exchange for a free copy. Now if you have never Reviving Bloom by Michelle go do that cause it was amazing. But this was amazing as well. Now that is stated, lets start this awesome review.
Now usually I start off with a song choice, but i wanted to say something before I did. Now when I first saw the description of this book, I was very hesitate about reading it. Why? Well First off: I, on occasion, in very rare cases read contemp. fiction. Its a personal choice really. So on top of that, I had this one summer where all I did, literally was watch the show My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding on TLC, i don’t even regret or feel guilty about this little fact because TLC really makes things more than just about screaming Bridzillas, its about the culture. So with that said i know somewhat about this culture, and as much as i respect that is how other chose to live, i don’t not like it very much, honestly this is how i described it to a friend of mine: Imagine Jersey Shore with Morals. The girls get married between 14 to the OLDEST and i am not shitting you, they thought she was an old lady for waiting so long was 21. And they have very strict rules for the girls, boys can do whatever the hell they want. Really. So on top of the fact that i was already a little uncomfortable with the idea of a Romany girl, and a Gorger boy that Gorger boy (Gorger meaning townie, or non-gypsy folks) wants to go into the army. And all i can think is Michelle what are you doing to me?! I don’t like Army boys why? Their stories tend to be heartbreaking and i won’t do it! So in spite of all that i FUCKING loved this. Loved it.
So Song choice: “You and I” by Lady Gaga this song is for Linc who i love dearly and planning on jumping into this book and stealing him away forever. And don’t you be dissing Lady Gaga cause i think she has an amazing voice, and i will openly admit she is a guilty pleasure of mine. “Cups” by Lulu and the Lampshades for Wyn. And “Make You Feel My Love” Cover by Adele for their love.
Well since i sort of did my first thoughts already i am going to jump into plot
Plot: Now like i have mentioned this is about Romany meets Gorger ( i really hope i am spelling that right but since i am lazy i am not going to check right now) Now forbidden romances is a high for some people, but for me they freak me out. Why? Because i assume they will just be filled with bitter-sweet heartache throughout the whole book. Even those moments that are meant to be carefree and beautiful i still remember in the back my heads, as usually does the characters that this can only last for so long. WELL Michelle Turner does an amazing job of making me forget everything but these two. I was so lost in moments that I didn’t feel that bittersweet moments. Those oh this is going to end badly moments. There were only two times in this book that I felt this could go downhill completely and utterly. Every time these two were together it was like magic. Now one of the big reasons i steer towards paranormal, scifi, fantasy, etc, etc is because I like action, i like stuff that keeps me going. Here is the thing though this went so quickly for me, that i didn’t realize til i stopped to do statuses on how far i really was. It was amazing pacing and never once did i get bored, which is ironic because lately i have been very bored with the paranormals i have been reading. Thanks for the break in the line of blah books! So though this might be a tale as old as time (hehehe i am totally giggling and freaking out a little at my beauty and the beast reference) it will not bore you, nor will it feel trite. Its a love story through and through. it will make you laugh, it will break your heart, it will mend your heart just to break it again, to fix it again, and if you desire so you can rinse and repeat like it says on your shampoo bottle. i highly recommend it for this book. 😉 in other words read it over and over again.
Linc: OMGOSH. SWOON-ASTIC. like the good swooning where you actually faint, none of that sissy, fake swooning girls do this days. NAH this is hardcore, bad-assery swooning. He is I have decided with the slight help of Michelle, that he is Channing Tatum and Ryan Gosling’s BABY. that is how gorgeous he is…in my mind. He is about as sweet as chocolate, or skittles in my case cause i hate chocolate nasty stuff…yeah i get it i am a poor excuse for a woman. i got over it. Anyways the fact that he is the patient zero of jocks, like he embodies everything that i would place in a stereotypical looking jock, he is nothing like a stereotypical jock. He wants a girl with brains. Someone he can talk to, someone that he can really grow with. He does the most amazing things for Wyn too. He ugh he is just amazing. here are some of my favorite Linc moments:
“Wyn, I’m after your heart.”
“You’re wrong, Wyn. We’ll have the memories and I’d rather have those than nothing.” I want to reach out and grab her. I want to hold her in my arms, but I know she has boundaries that I’m not use to and I can’t cross them. I’m afraid to even hold her hand, that it might cross some unseen line.
“Then I’ll be your Linc and you’ll be my Wyn.”
And I know at that moment that having her lips on me is as close as I’ll ever get to heaven without actually dying.
ONE MORE than i SWEAR i am done!
I growl. “You’re mine, Wyn. They aren’t fucking taking you away from me.”
Kay so that was Linc, if you aren’t swooning, i didn’t pick the right lines then. Or something might be wrong with you…sorry…
Wyn: Now here is where things get a little complicated. I wanted to hate her. I am serious i wanted to hate Wyn at times. I wanted to hate her for doing this to Linc. In the beginning for her i felt that she was using him a little bit. I always felt like Linc was in this 100 and 10 percent. There was no going back for him. But Wyn, she was the game changer. I wanted to make her the bad guy, honest to God i did. But i couldn’t ever do that to her. She was a very interesting character and I liked her for that. She was this really classy-dressed stylish girl, beautiful to boot, but unbelievably dedicated and smart girl. Not a lot of Gypsy girls finish high school, honestly i think most drop out before even getting to High School. Not only does Wyn want to graduate but she is top of her class. She is a smart with, with a a very heavy decision on her shoulders. Her decision to leave or not to leave, i was scared would be completely based on Linc, but in the end i think that she has more to think about a boy. I think that Michelle did an excellent job of making not just a love story but a story about growing, and becoming more than just yourself…if that makes sense. There is so much more out there for Wyn and i feel like she wants to touch the stars (figuratively her dream job is not to be astronaut so get that out of your head right now!) Anyways in the end Wyn won my heart and deviation she was a worthy MC and even though i hated her at times I always respected her.
The end. Seriously. The end of this review. JUST KIDDING! the end of the book, perfect. No cliffies since this is a standalone from what i believe there are going to be spinoff stories, but this was this and YAY.
Thanks again to Michelle for a) offering me a free copy b) because of offering the free copy actually gave me that last little push to read this because i am being dead serious i was very concerned about reading this. But it was totally worth it.
