Summary via Goodreads: “A bond forged in blood. Fealty given to the one he desires above all others. Graced with the ability to shift into any form, Diskant Black is the absolute authority when it comes to New York shifters, and as the Omega of the city, his word is law. Protecting the shifter races is more than a job, it’s a predisposition ingrained since birth-nothing is more important. Until a chance encounter with a tiny female sets fire to his blood, brings him to his knees and turns his world upside down. Ava Brisbane is more than he bargained for in a mate-beautiful, fragile…human. If he wants to keep her by his side, he’ll have to sacrifice a portion of his soul to establish a bond that can never be broken. Unfortunately, the timing couldn’t be worse. Shepherds-hunters of all the shifter races-have arrived in New York. To protect the woman he can’t live without, Diskant will have to stand against those who have come to start a war.”
My Review: (This got a 3 out 5 from me on Goodreads)
*This book is not meant for kids under 18 by the way, or if you are over 18 and you don’t like sex in your books then move along. 😉
Sooooo i am going to nix assigning a song to do this as i normally do just because I can’t really think of a song to go with this book….Sorry! Not that you really care but there it is.
Yeah, i have to give this a three because i felt like it could have been done at about 75% maybe a little sooner, it took a very long time wrapping up and almost, sort of introducing something new, it started to but then like backed away a little. I know that doesnt make much sense but the only way i think i can example is by saying this: here i present you with an idea, oh you know what, nah, i think i will give you half of the idea and i might do more with it later but i am not sure. And that is the end of my example, and the reason i feel so strongly about this is because of the next book is suppose to be about two other characters in this one, and i will openly admit i am kinda of excited to read that one. not kinda, really looking forward to it. So that is quick wrap up.
So…the beginning is sex. the middle is almost half and half, leaning more towards plot, and the end is a very long time wrapping up said plot from the middle portion. I don’t mind the sex really i don’t but i don’t know in this book i just felt like hmm, how do i put this? It was good at the start, as per norm, then it got a little trite, then i was just like okay i want a little more plot please! Because i like plot i think it is really fun, and what the author was trying to give us was seemingly interesting but unfortunately the plot for the most part seemed to effect the “main characters” (ill explain in a minute why its in “air” quotes), was effecting the MC’s indirectly, sort of. I get it hurt one of the pack, you hurt the pack, but at the same time the danger wasn’t totally and utterly directed at them, and the side story of Ava’s that was first introduced, disappears until near the end and at that point i am like, whoa, whoa, whoa no! you are almost done so are you going to make this an easy wrap up? Well sort of. That is the idea thing that i was presenting earlier. Hmm i just don’t know. I liked it for the most part but really about at 75% i wanted to be done because as much as i love werewolves, and i love Omegas and i do, trust me i do, but the whole you’re my mate so we love each other automatically saddens me sometimes because it sucks out all the wooing and what nots, i want there to be a bit of a chase, a chase that we can see. Maybe that is just me.
Ava: Is strange. I say that because my God i loved her the moment she opened her mouth because she had me laughing my ass off but then she kind of goes through these different personality shifts. First she is sassy, funny as hell, and totally kickass, then she is scared, running, and again a bit fearful. I don’t mind it when characters are nervous or whatever, but she made me feel a little like i was just confused by her. Because its not only that she is supposedly shy in bed – according to her, and um that is not the case at all. She is willingly disregards any morals she might have, and i know, i know it comes with the mating thing of werewolves/shifters i get it, really i do but i don’t want to get into this fight right now so i am letting it go and letting you decide how you feel about that.
Diskant: How the hell do you say his name? I have just been pronouncing it Dis-can’t? Yeah? Sure whatever i am just typing doesn’t matter that much i suppose. Anyways he is the typical possessive, crazed shifter male who is hotter than hell and commanding as ever. He doesn’t really stand out much more than that i suppose. I mean there are moments were he is a little like awww cute! but mostly he likes dirty talk that is what i took away from him….
Okay so you know how i mentioned “main characters” Well this book i thought was suppose to be about those kids up there, therefore i was thinking the POV would switch between them, nope, it switches throughout a lot of people, Trey, his brother whose name i cannot spell but the next book is about him, and about like four or five other people but i don’t want to give anything away so i am not going to talk about them. I guess the lots of POVs shifts bothered me only because i thought this would have worked better dedicated to just Diskant and Ava and through them we are introduced to the characters of the next two books. But again maybe that is just me.
Overall, i thought it was an okay read, i pretty much plowed through the first half in no time at all and maybe it was because i associated the second half with school – as i am a good student who doesn’t sit in the back and read books on their kindle while “listening” to the lecture – and that is why i wasnt into it as much, but i just think it was because a lot was trying to happen all at once. so pacing as a little jumbled… but i still think it is worthy of a chance.
