Olivia Whitehead is a typical junior in high school. She and her best friend are having the time of their lives, but she can’t help but notice the changes happening to her. Especially the changes in her heart after she begins dreaming about a mysterious dark haired young man. But what will happen when the school heartthrob decides he wants Olivia? *Heavy Sigh* I know never a good way to start a review but there it is. I want to start off by saying that i am super on the fence about a lot of things, but i would give it a 3.75 and being that its closer to four well there you go. So moving on to the review
Well not really because i try to find a song that goes well with the book so I guess my choice for this book would be “I will follow you into the dark” (yes that is the entire name of the song) by Death Cab For Cutie.
Now for the reviewin’ – well before that i think that i am going to marry this cover! okay i’m done-
Okay first thoughts: its a good, entertaining short read, its only a little more than 200 pages. I thought that the main character girl was very high school, and the main man (the book is in their pov – points of view) he was suppose to be in college but sometimes his age just didn’t i don’t know how to put it, its like he was high school other times he wasn’t… he was a mix. I thought though it was an interesting enough read because i haven’t done a whole lot of sorcerer stories before so this was new-ish for me, and i liked it.
Plot: it was interesting because right off the bat you know that these two cannot really be together until Scott figures out how to get rid of the curse, well if you don’t think that you want to read it because you are looking for paranormal romance calm yourself! there is plenty of the romance, HOW YOU ASK? well its this magical thing called loopholes hehehe they are the funniest. anyways the idea was interesting enough and it got me to want to look at it, its a well paced book there was only once i think that i was like…i’m bored but i get bored easily seriously i need something “shiny” like on every other page, but thats me. Otherwise again well paced lots happening and Scott does sort of introduce the reader to what he is, and all that so you aren’t just learning as you go, the narrators help you along so you don’t get lost. Like i said before its in Scoot and Livvie’s point of view.
So i guess the reason i was so wishy-washy about this is that i really did like it, i thought it was a very cute, fun read but at the same time i was having a hard time getting really connected to Livvie and i am not sure why, i think it really is just me. Because i was seriously hooked after reading the sample on amazon i wanted to find out more and more and more. I also thought that Scott’s protectiveness wavered a lot like it became an after thought on why he could do his loopholes, and among other things but i will get back to that near the end of my review….
Olivia – Livvie, and i think that is her only other nickname that i can think of at the moment. Anyways…. she is in high school and man the first scene we get of her is in a VERY steamy dream that i can honestly say is a really good way to get someone to read your book, but you should keep reading not just for that. Like i said before it was hard for me to connect with her. She was a little air-heady sometimes, and there were other times i just kinda wanted to bop her on the head just because of personal reasons. She was a caring person and it was obvious how much she loved her best friend but her relationship with her parents was strained….and as i am writing this i realize what i was looking for more in this book, and that is more showing less telling if you are a writer i think you get what i am saying its a term we use a lot in my creative writing courses. Its showing how you feel verses saying, he is sad. i think this book could have benefited with more of that. make me feel these emotions with Livvie not just telling me how she feels…okay back to Livvie…she is a sweet girl and sometimes she was a little unsure of her feelings but i mean i couldn’t really blame her, she thought she was going a bit cra cra i guess i would too…anyways she does turn out to be pretty kickass when she needs to be.
Okay Scott – Scottie, and also affectionately referred to Mr. Sexy. yes that is from the book not from my own mouth but it does sound like something i would say. anyways… Scott is pretty intelligent guy, he seems very passionate, and a lot of his book revolved around Livvie, he was different from my normal protective, bossy, arrogant ass male leads, and it was sort of refreshing that he was a little more laid back. He was sweet and caring, its obvious that he loves Livvie and he barely even knows her yet but he is really willing to go to the ends of the earth to be with her. And then again i know i am going to sound contradictory here but he is also can be very very stupid. just saying and again i will get to that at the end of this review. So Scott = caring, also hot.
There were the two best friends: Juniper, and Mark – Mark suddenly appears about a quarter of the way through and we don’t get a whole lot of alone time with him but he has a thing for J. so don’t worry about love triangles here. Um well there isn’t a whole lot to say about these two because the back up characters all have their own individual personalities which is something i always love but honestly i’m more than half way through a tropical sprite and um yeah….so im going to stop while i am ahead.
So that thing that has been bothering me? Well the ending is suppose to be i think a shocker but for the last like quarter of the book i kept screaming it at the book, the book was really rude and didn’t answer me back so poo on it… okay yup see this is when i am suppose to be stopping while i am ahead….anyways….the ending is sort of cliffhanger-y i think that i will survive but also tropical sprite…so there is that…. 🙂
